Seven more properties evacuated near Sparks Lake wildfire

KAMLOOPS — The largest wildfire in B.C. has spurred another evacuation order.

Tuesday evening (July 20), the Thompson-Nicola Regional District ordered the evacuation of seven more properties due to the Sparks Lake wildfire northwest of Kamloops.

The properties affected are as follows:

  • 5160 to 5450 Bonaparte Lake;
  • 4680 to 5040 Eagan-Bonaparte Lake FSR;
  • 5200 Secret Lake; and
  • any other properties as identified within the red boundary in the map below:

Residents of these properties are ordered to leave immediately. There is no commercial lodging available in Kamloops, so evacuees are encouraged to stay with family and friends if possible.

The new properties under evacuation come in addition to 289 properties previously evacuated by the TNRD. There are 298 properties under evacuation alert. The Skeetchestn community has also been evacuated.

The Sparks Lake wildfire is mapped at 47,732 hectares and, like other Southern Interior wildfires, is being fanned by strong winds.
