Wildfires still burning, air quality still poor

KAMLOOPS — There are 300 fires burning in the province this morning. That’s actually down a handful from the weekend. But the number has increased in the Kamloops Fire Centre, where 115 fires are burning.

The Tremont Creek and White Rock Lake fires seem to be the most active, but none of the big fires are considered being held or under control as of this morning.

Meanwhile, Air quality continues to be poor in our area. The special air quality statement is still in effect, and the government’s air quality index is at 10 or extreme risk in the areas where the smoke is heaviest. The purple air index, found on our website, is at 200 in many areas of the South Shore, which indicates that everyone could start to feel the effects of the smoke.
