KAMLOOPS — Six communities in the Thompson-Shuswap region are among the beneficiaries of a $24.5 million infrastructure announcement, split between the federal and provincial governments.

Among them is the City of Kamloops, which will receive $4 million to complete a north-south bike lane corridor.

“We’re very, very excited to receive this $4 million to make it possible for us to fast-track this active transportation and [move up] our accessibility priorities in Kamloops by three-to-four years — allowing us to start getting started on these projects in the near future instead of waiting,” said Kamloops Councillor Sadie Hunter.

Of 27 B.C. Interior communities receiving funding, here are the six in the Thompson region:

  • Chase — $250,000 for community hall upgrades
  • Clearwater — $1,356,735 to help separate motorized and non-motorized transport lanes
  • Kamloops — $4M to complete a north-south bike lane corridor, connecting local parks and hospital
  • Sun Peaks Health Association — $816,998 to build an ambulance bay and triage area, create community learning centre
  • Tk’emlups te Secwepemc — $299,933 to complete bikeways, connect to public transit
  • Larch Hills Nordic Society (Salmon Arm) — $180,435 to install lighting along cross-country ski trails
