B.C. averages 76 new COVID-19 cases per day over the weekend; 60 new cases found in Interior

VICTORIA — B.C. averaged 76 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the past three days, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

In a release, Henry notes there were 94 new cases found Saturday (June 19), 90 on Sunday and just 45 on Monday for a total of 229. Interior Health saw a total of 60 new cases over the three days.

Overall B.C. has found 147,131 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 35,361 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 51)
  • 85,592 — Fraser Health (up by 99)
  • 5,150 — Island Health (up by 5)
  • 13,031 — Interior Health (up by 60)
  • 7,793 — Northern Health (up by 13)
  • 203 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry says the active caseload Monday is 1,204, a decrease of 185 from Friday. There are 108 patients in hospital and 48 in ICU.

Within Interior Health, there are 270 active cases Monday, a drop of 29 from Friday. There are six patients in hospital — and all six are in critical care.

Three more people have died of COVID-19, raising the province’s death toll to 1,743. The Interior Health death toll remains at 155.

A total of 144,153 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry notes 77.3 per cent of all adults and 75.8 per cent of all British Columbians aged 12 or older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The province has administered 4.4 million doses of vaccine, including 935,401 second doses.
