KAMLOOPS — RCMP have made one arrest after a home invasion on the Kamloops North Shore last weekend.

In a release, Sgt. Darren Michels says the incident happened at a home on Sydney Avenue Friday evening (June 11), and was called in at 6:30 the next morning.

The homeowner reported told police that, while the family was asleep, someone entered the home’s basement through an unlocked door, stealing several items including vehicle keys. The thief then ate food from a refrigerator in the home before taking the family’s vehicle and driving off.

During the noon hour Saturday, RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Beach Avenue with two apparently unconscious men inside.

When investigators arrived, they found the vehicle was the one stolen from the Sydney Avenue home. The two occupants had apparently been using drugs and passed out. They were treated by B.C. Ambulance attendants.

A Kamloops man, 55, is now facing a charge of possession of stolen property. He was released with a court date.

Anyone who has more information on the incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.

RCMP remind local residents to lock the doors on both their vehicles and their homes at night, “to avoid becoming the victim of a crime of opportunity” while they sleep.
