Sunny days ahead for Kamloops before clouds and shower potential returns

KAMLOOPS — Traditionally, the May long weekend in Kamloops is a toss-up between spring rain or summer heat. This year, Environment Canada Meteorologist Lisa Erven says the sun will prevail with highs in the mid-20s.

“In comparison to previous years when we’ve had rain, this long weekend might feel like a dose of summer,” Erven told CFJC Today.

Environment Canada says the warm temperatures are close to normal for this time of year, and with that comes quickly changing spring conditions.

“Get out this weekend and soak up that vitamin D because we do have a weather pattern change in store for next week,” notes Erven. “We should see some more showers entering your forecast.”

Current health restrictions mean road trips outside of your region aren’t in the forecast. As locals look for ways to make the most of the weekend from home, water is flowing again at all of the city’s spray parks.

“We’ve spent a fair bit of time this spring repainting them and freshening them up so I think everyone is going to enjoy that,” says City Parks and Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putnam.

Each of the water parks will be open seven-days-a-week from 10:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m and, just like the previous pandemic summer, families are asked to space out safely.

“Prince Charles Park as well, we’re having the parents self-monitor, but we’re only allowed up to 40 individuals in the wading pool at any given time,” says Putnam. “We’re hoping everyone is going to work together on that and we can keep it open and safe for everyone.”
