B.C. sees 456 new cases of COVID-19, including 30 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded 456 new cases of COVID-19 today, with the active case load decreasing slightly.

In a prepared update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry noted 30 new cases of the virus within Interior Health.

The new cases lift the provincial total to 78,278, spread through B.C. thusly:

  • 18,085 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 108)
  • 46,090 — Fraser Health (up by 259)
  • 2,241 — Island Health (up by 35)
  • 7,271 — Interior Health (up by 30)
  • 4,437 — Northern Health (up by 20)
  • 160 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 4)

Henry reports the active COVID-19 case load is at 4,668, down by nine. There are 237 people in hospital including 64 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 654 active cases an increase of 16 from Tuesday. There are 24 people in hospital and six in critical care.

Two more people have died from the virus, swelling the B.C. death toll to 1,338.

Meantime, Interior Health says it has connected five more deaths to COVID-19 in the region. The deaths evidently have not yet been counted by the province. That raises the IH death toll to 101. IH says two of the deaths are connected to the outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital declared over on Monday. One of the deaths is connected to the outbreak at the Westsyde Care Residence group home.

There are 7,924 people under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 exposure.

A further 72,219 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry notes 230,875 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been doled out in B.C., including 62,608 second doses.
