Another 508 cases of COVID-19 found in B.C.; variant cases up to 72

VANCOUVER — B.C. has reported 508 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Feb. 19), including 59 new cases within Interior Health.

The figures came out of a media briefing led by Health Minister Adrian Dix and Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reka Gustafson.

The 508 new cases raises the B.C. case count to 75,835, spread out as follows:

  • 17,487 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 116)
  • 44,848 — Fraser Health (up by 286)
  • 2,067 — Island Health (up by 22)
  • 7,131 — Interior Health (up by 59)
  • 4,252 — Northern Health (up by 25)
  • 155 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The number of cases of so-called variants of concern in B.C. is now 72.

Gustafson reported 4,486 active cases of COVID-19 Friday, an increase of 138 from Thursday. There are 217 people in hospital including 61 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 705 active cases, up by 13 from Thursday. There are 23 people in hospital and nine in critical care.

Six more people have died of the virus, lifting the provincial death toll to 1,327. Four of those six deaths took place within Interior Health, raising the regional death toll to 94.

A total of 7,699 people are under active public monitoring due to direct COVID-19 exposure.

There are 69,970 people considered fully recovered, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

Gustafson noted 192,942 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, including 36,923 second doses. She noted 12,250 doses were delivered Thursday, marking the highest single-day total to date.
