B.C. hits second straight daily record with 589 new COVID-19 cases, 24 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — The transmission of COVID-19 in B.C. has hit an eye-popping new high.

According to a news release from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, the daily case count hit 589 in B.C. Friday (Nov. 6). That includes 24 new cases within Interior Health.

This is a new daily record, far above the record 425 cases recorded Thursday.

The 589 new cases bring the provincial total to 17,149 since the COVID-19 pandemic began, spread through the province as follows:

• 5,369 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 146)
• 10,109 — Fraser Health (up by 402)
• 286 — Island Health (up by 5)
• 845 — Interior Health (up by 24)
• 450 — Northern Health (up by 12)
• 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reports 3,741 active cases in B.C., including 104 patients in hospital and 28 in intensive care.

Interior Health says there are 115 active cases within the region, including one person in hospital.

Two more people have died of the virus, lifting the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 275.

A total of 7,887 people are under active public health monitoring due to exposures to the virus.

The number of people considered fully recovered is 13,035, or 76 per cent of all recorded COVID-19 cases.

There were six new healthcare system outbreaks declared Friday — not including the Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower outbreak, which is considered a community outbreak. One outbreak in the healthcare system has been declared over.

Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix will hold a rare weekend media briefing at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
