B.C. records 96 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, sees huge decrease in active cases

VICTORIA — Provincial health officials are reporting a drop in active COVID-19 cases by more than 500.

In new numbers released Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 22), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are 1,465 active cases in B.C. That is down by 522 from Monday’s total of 1,987.

The news release does not explain what conditions led to the precipitous drop.

Interior Health reports 31 active cases within the region.

Henry reported 96 new cases of the virus Tuesday, including three within Interior Health. Seven of the new cases province-wide are epidemiologically linked to known COVID-19 cases.

That brings the provincial total to 8,304 since the pandemic began in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

2,984 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 39)
4,254 — Fraser Health (up by 43)
203 — Island Health (unchanged)
511 — Interior Health (up by 3)
266 — Northern Health (up by 11)
86 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry says there are 61 people in hospital with the virus, including 22 in intensive care. One of those hospitalized patients is in Interior Health.

There were no new COVID-19 deaths to report. The B.C. death toll remains at 227.

A total of 3,314 people are under active public health monitoring due to contacts with known COVID-19 cases.

There are now 6,589 patients considered fully recovered, or 79 per cent of all recorded cases.
