Advisories come down as Kamloops-area flood danger subsides

VICTORIA — The flood threat is easing in the Kamloops area, as the province is easing advisories on area rivers.

As of 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (July 7), the B.C. River Forecast Centre (RFC) has downgraded the Bonaparte River from a flood warning to a flood watch. Officials in Cache Creek say the river has dropped several inches today.

Meantime, flood watches and high streamflow advisories have ended for the North Thompson River and its tributaries, the Thompson River at Kamloops and tributaries of the South Thompson River including Shuswap Lake.

High streamflow advisories remain for the South Thompson River and the Thompson River at Spences Bridge.

The RFC says runoff from last week’s rainfall has made its way through most of the system. While flows remain high on some rivers, especially the Bonaparte and South Thompson, they are expected to continue to recede throughout the week.

Even though unsettled weather may bring some rainfall this week, the RFC says it is not expected to lead to significant additional rises.
