Thirteen new COVID-19 cases Tuesday; Interior Health total inches upward

VICTORIA — The number of COVID-19 cases in Interior Health has inched upward once again.

In her briefing Tuesday (June 23), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 13 new cases across the province.

The province-wide total of 2,835 cases have been found as follows:

  • 960 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 1480 (Fraser Health)
  • 131 (Vancouver Island)
  • 199 (Interior Health)
  • 65 (Northern Health)

From May 28 to June 16, the case count in Interior Health remained steady at 195. The count has crept upward in the past week, and is at 199 as of Tuesday.

Dr. Henry reported no new outbreaks in the community or in the healthcare system.

There are 174 active cases as of Tuesday, including 16 people in hospital and seven in critical or intensive care.

One more person has died of COVID-19 — a man in longterm care. The provincial death toll is now 170.

Of the total number of cases, 2,491 people are considered fully recovered, or 88 per cent.
