Snowbird pilots to depart Halifax for Moose Jaw

KAMLOOPS — The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will remain grounded at Kamloops Airport after a tragic crash took the life of a team member just over a week ago, but their pilots are heading home.

According to a Facebook post, the team will arrive at 15 Wing Moose Jaw Monday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. local time. The team had been in Halifax since a ceremony was held honouring Capt. Jennifer Casey.

The squadron was departing Kamloops last Sunday (May 17) when one jet experienced a problem over Brocklehurst.

Capt. Casey and Capt. Richard MacDougall ejected just before the jet slammed into a Glenview Avenue home. Capt. Casey was killed in the accident. Capt. MacDougall continues to recover from his injuries at Royal Inland Hospital.

The social media post asks Moose Jaw residents to respect the privacy of the remaining Snowbirds team members, saying they are still grieving deeply at the loss of Capt. Casey.

(Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story indicated that the Snowbirds jets were leaving Kamloops. That is incorrect and has since been corrected.)
