KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed that a crash on the Tk’emlups Reserve Wednesday (May 13) was fatal.

Just before 4:00 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Halston Avenue and Highway 5 for a collision between a motorcycle and a Kia Soul.

According to RCMP E-Division Traffic Services spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov, the cream-coloured Kia had Alberta plates and was driven by a woman in her 70s.

Halskov says the Kia turned left on a red light into the path of the northbound motorcycle, giving the motorcyclist no chance to react before the crash.

The coroners service says the person who lost her life was a woman in her late 50s. RCMP say she was from the Kamloops area.

According to an email from B.C. Emergency Health Services, paramedics also took another person to hospital for treatment.

While Halskov says RCMP don’t suspect impairment, and they have surveillance video, they are still looking to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage of the Kia from before the collision took place.
