After Wednesday spike, new COVID-19 cases in B.C. back down

VICTORIA — After a spike in new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, provincial health officials say the number of new cases was back down Thursday.

In her daily briefing, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the province recorded 29 new positive cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the province’s total to 1,824.

There are three new cases within Interior Health, bringing the total here to 156.

Across the province, there are 103 people in hospital with symptoms of the virus, including 44 in critical care or intensive care.

Of all positive COVID-19 cases in B.C., 1,092 are considered recovered, or 60 per cent.

Four more people have died due to COVID-19, with the provincial death toll now reaching 94.

One new long-term care facility outbreak has been identified — at Hawthorn Park and Orchard Manor in Kelowna.
