B.C. surpasses 1,000 COVID-19 cases; five new deaths announced

VICTORIA — The provincial health officer has announced 43 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., bringing the total to 1,013.

Five more people have died of the virus — all of whom were located in the Vancouver Coastal Health or Fraser Health authorities.

There are now 107 positive cases in the Interior Health region.

Provincially, 507 people have recovered from the virus — roughly half of the total diagnosed cases.

Earlier Tuesday (March 31), Interior Health announced a community outbreak of COVID-19 involving temporary foreign workers at a business in West Kelowna.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said during her news conference today that the business itself is quarantined and everyone has been isolated effectively.

Henry added that later today or early tomorrow guidance will be given for bylaw officers and other law enforcement agencies in the province.
