REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Two men from Ontario died in a crash west of Revelstoke last weekend.

According to a news release from Revelstoke RCMP, the two were in a commercial truck that crashed with another semi Saturday morning on the Trans Canada Highway near Three Valley Gap.

RCMP say the two were travelling eastbound when the driver lost control, causing the truck to slide sideways across the highway’s lanes and into the path of a westbound truck.

Both vehicles burst into flames, and RCMP say the Ontario men were not able to get out of their vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the westbound truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP say initial investigation has determined the eastbound vehicle may have been travelling too fast for poor road conditions.

The speed limit in the area was posted at 70 kilometres per hour, but Sgt. Rob Haney says drivers should drive well below the speed limit if road conditions are less than ideal.

The B.C. Coroners Service has joined the RCMP in investigating.
