According to Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, witnesses smelled smoke and went to investigate. When they did, a man was seen leaving a second-floor room.

It’s believed to be the same man who was registered to the room, but the personal information provided by man “has not yielded a positive identification.”

Description:

  • White
  • Mid-30s
  • Facial hair
  • At the time he registered as a guest, wearing a blue, buttoned-down shirt and a red ball cap
  • At the time of leaving the hotel, wearing a grey sweater

Vehicle description:

  • Ford pickup truck
  • Black
  • Partially lifted
  • Alberta license plate
  • Broken left tail light

Meantime, KFR Captain Kris Krutop says firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the room, but were able to knock it down quickly.

Krutop says something about the room alerted firefighters to the idea that it might be suspicious.

“At this time, it’s suspicious in nature. It doesn’t look like a room would typically look, is all I can really tell you. It doesn’t quite match up with what we would normally see,” said Krutop.
