KAMLOOPS — (Note: This story has been updated here.)

Fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire inside a room at an Aberdeen motel this morning.

Kamloops Fire Rescue was called to the Travelodge on Rogers Way at about 8:00 a.m.

Captain Kris Krutop says firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the room, but were able to knock it down quickly.

Krutop says something about the room alerted firefighters to the idea that it might be suspicious.

“At this time, it’s suspicious in nature. It doesn’t look like a room would typically look, is all I can really tell you. It doesn’t quite match up with what we would normally see,” said Krutop.

Krutop notes some witnesses reported a vehicle fleeing from the scene, but that has not been confirmed.

“We did get a report from the manager on site that that was the case. Also, a neighbour in an adjacent room reported the same thing, but we never did witness anybody come in or out of the room,” said Krutop.
