Kamloops crews busy responding to accidents on snowy roads

KAMLOOPS — Fire crews in Kamloops are urging people to drive with caution after several accidents across the city last night and early this morning.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Troy Grant says crews responded to nine car crashes since snow started falling Sunday evening into the early morning hours today.

“Most of those were minor in nature, cars going off the road into a ditch, into a tree, with few of them reporting any injuries,” Grant says. “We did have one major one on the East Trans Canada Highway. Two people went to hospital and one of the people in the other vehicle had to be removed from a vehicle using the jaws of life but they were injury-free.”

Grant says that accident occurred just east of Grand Boulevard. He’s reminding people to drive to conditions, especially during the winter months.

“Always with the snow, a reminder to slow down for the conditions,” he says. “It’s typical for the first couple snowfalls we do have more accidents, (then) people get used to the idea things are slippery, and they do start to behave themselves. So just to be aware that this is the shoulder season and that we will start having more accidents, so everyone needs to slow down for the road conditions.”
