KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to multiple calls of trees and power lines down throughout Kamloops Friday morning (Oct. 25).

The calls came in throughout the city as a windstorm whipped through the region.

Cpt. Rob Schoular says, as of late Friday morning, KFR crews were at three higher priority incidents with live wires down.

“There are wires on the road, whether communications wire or high-voltage, trees down on vehicles as well,” said Schoular. “We’ve got our traffic control partners responding as well to give us assistance, which frees up our emergency crews for emergency calls.”

“The key message here would be, be aware of the surroundings around you and, if any wires are down whatsoever, avoid the area if at all possible,” added Schoular.

According to BC Hydro, more than 35,000 customers are affected by outages in the Thompson/Shuswap region.

Nearly 64,000 customers are without power province-wide.
