Another winter storm about to hit B.C.

KAMLOOPS —      After weathering a severe ice storm barely two weeks ago, residents in the Fraser Valley are bracing for another winter storm — this time packing freezing rain, as much as 30 centimetres of snow and more of the same tomorrow before the latest system moves through.

    Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Fraser Valley, snowfall warnings for mountain passes to and from the B-C Interior and also for the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Squamish.

    Greater Victoria, eastern Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and Howe Sound could also be hit by heavy snow or freezing rain today, and  extreme cold is gripping parts of northern B-C, including Kitimat and Terrace.

    While weather warnings are not in effect in the Peace region of northeastern B-C, bitter cold, coupled with mechanical problems, has forced school districts 59 and 60 to cancel all school buses today, although schools will still be open. 

Snowfall warnings still out for most of the interior highways, including the Coquihalla, Hope-Princeton, the Nicola area and the Fraser Canyon south of Lytton.

10-15 centimeters of snow expected on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt  and on the Connector today. Lesser amounts between Merritt and Kamloops.

In Kamloops, it looks like a dump of snow forecast for today will be much less than expected.

We are looking at mainly cloudy skies with a few flurries and about 2 centimters of snow in the city.
