MINDY KALING SAYS WHITE MALE CRITICS ARE BEING UNFAIR: Ocean’s 8 star Mindy Kaling says white male critics are being “unfair” to the female-led reboot of the movie franchise. “If I had to base my career on what white men wanted, I would be very unsuccessful,” Kaling told Yahoo News. “There is obviously an audience out there who want to watch things like [Ocean’s 8] which I work on.” Co-star Cate Blanchett agreed, saying: “The conversation has to change and the media has a huge responsibility.”

KHLOE KARDASHIAN AND TRISTAN THOMPSON CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY IN L.A.: Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson headed from Cleveland to L.A. to celebrate Father’s Day with their 2-month-old daughter True. The 33-year-old shared shots on Instagram Stories of their pink-hued celebrations. One balloon read:”Welcome home Khloe and True.” A second balloon showed they were from sister Kylie Jenner and her daughter Stormi. Thompson, who reportedly cheated on Kardashian while she was pregnant, was not included in the missive.

HOUSEWIVES LIQUORED UP? Aviva Drescher, who starred in Seasons 5 and 6 of Real Housewives of New York, tells Page Six that the production team was too quick to encourage the ladies to drink. She recalls the time a producer asked her and castmate Ramona Singer to do a shot of alcohol before a scene. “I told the head producer, ‘I don’t want to do a shot. Can you just fill it with water?’” said Drescher, 47, who grew up with an alcoholic mother and says she had never taken a shot before. “And they said no. I was so weak and so intimidated by the production team, and I had just gone through all the negotiations of my contract for the second season and those were demoralizing,” she said. “I took the shot. I felt tremendous pressure to do it.” Several Housewives have had public battles with the bottle, including Kim Richards and Luann de Lesseps, who both spent time in rehab.

BILLIE LOURD PAYS TRIBUTE TO MOM WHILE PITCHING DODGERS GAME: Billie Lourd, 25, honored her mother when she threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the start of the Los Angeles DodgersSan Francisco Giants game Friday night. It coincided with the Dodgers’ annual Star Wars night, and Lourd wore her hair in double buns, a la mom Carrie Fisher‘s character Leia.

LIZA MINNELLI SLAMS RENEE ZELLWEGER: The Academy Award-winning Renee Zellweger is portraying Judy Garland in Judy, a film portraying the singer at the height of her fame in 1968’s London. But Garland’s daughter Liza Minnelli is less than impressed. “I have never met nor spoken to Rene Zellweger… I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way,” Minnelli wrote on Facebook this week. “Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”

DIRECTOR OF NEW BILLY ZANE FILM REVEALS HE IS BLIND: Adam Morse is set to debut his first film, Lucid, at the Edinburgh Film Festival. He is also sharing the news that he is blind. He suffers from a rare disorder called Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, and he began losing his sight nine years ago. Despite the obvious limitations it imposed, he pressed on, telling The Guardian that he wanted “to stop focusing on the limitations and instead concentrate on what I could do.” Zane revealed that he had no idea Morse was visually impaired. Morse powered through the challenges by using a 60-inch monitor (He has partial peripheral vision), a screen reader and leaned on his cinematographer Michel Dierickx.
