Heavy rain, hail, provide chance to paddle down Saskatoon streets
SASKATOON — Streets and basements were flooded, trees were blown over and power was knocked out in some areas when a slow-moving thunderstorm packing heavy rain and hail rolled into Saskatoon Monday evening.
Videos posted on social media show cars splashing through water-logged streets and some properties covered in so much hail, it looked like a snowstorm in July.
One photo shows people apparently swimming along a street, while another features two men canoeing down another.
Environment Canada meteorologist Brad Vrolijk says the storm dumped hail about the size of quarters, which appeared to block storm sewers and may have contributed to the flooding.
