Venom open TOJLL season with a loss

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Venom (0-1) opened the 2018 Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League regular season with a 13-7 loss at home to the Vernon Tigers (1-0) on Saturday night at Memorial Arena.

The visitors lead from start to finish. The Venom trailed 4-3 after 20 minutes, but outshot Vernon 21-17. Kamloops trailed 7-6 into the third, and the Tigers outshot the Venom 15-13 in the second. Vernon began the final period by scoring five straight. The Tigers outshot Kamloops 18-10 in the third and 50-44 Vernon total. 

 

Ryan Dergousoff and Tanner Koroluk each scored twice for the Venom. Colton Boomer, Anthony Matusiak and Nate Fraser rounded out the scoring for Kamloops. Ethan Milobar suffered the loss in goal. The Venom potted one power-play goal and one short-handed marker, but Vernon scored four power-play goals.

 

Kamloops will visit the Armstrong Shamrocks on Friday, April 27th at 7:30pm. The Shamrocks begin their regular season tonight (Monday) in Penticton versus the South Okanagan Flames at 7:30pm. The Venom’s next home game is set for Saturday, May 12th with the Shamrocks at 7:30pm at Memorial Arena. Kamloops and the Tigers will meet again on Saturday, May 26th in Vernon at 7:30pm.
