It’s A Royal Boy!

Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their third child at St. Mary’s Hospital in London on Monday, April 23rd. He joins brother Prince George, 4, and sister Princess Charlotte, 2.

Kensington Palace confirmed the news on Twitter, and kept royal watchers up-to-date on developments all day. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs,” the statement said. “The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.”

• The Royalist Town Crier also announced the birth of the boy on the steps of hospital, calling out “God Save the Queen.”
• The baby’s name has not yet been announced, though Albert and Arthur are tied as the most popular names for a boy, according to British oddsmakers. He is fifth in line for succession to the throne after Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
• In the U.K., new moms average a day and a half in the hospital. (In the U.S., mothers average two days). Kate spent the night after giving birth to Prince George in 2013, but left less than 10 hours after welcoming Princess Charlotte in 2015, according to People.
• Kate and her latest royal recruit left the hospital Monday evening just seven hours after giving birth at 11 a.m. William and Kate showed off their new addition Monday afternoon in front of St. Mary’s. He wore a white gown and cap.
• Observers say Kate was also moved to make a quick exit by the frenzy of attention she caused at the hospital.
