Investigation underway into Vernon mudslide
VERNON, B.C. — UPDATE- An irrigation system may have been the cause of a mudslide in Vernon’s Okanagan Landing.
Mud, trees and debris came down Tuesday into a pool at the Mandalay condos near the Yacht Club Tuesday, narrowing missing two women in the pool.
City spokesperson Nick Nilsen says there were some temporary evacuations .
Nilsen says engineer reports indicate the cause could have been a private irrigation system above the condos, either failing or being left on, and saturating the ground.
Nilsen says the watering was on private property above the Mandalay development.
Engineers now say the area is stable, and its been turned over to the property owners for insurance and clean-up.
