CIS Roundup: Dinos beat reigning Vanier Cup champion Thunderbirds 35-8

CALGARY — Jimmy Underdahl threw for over 300 yards with two touchdown passes as the Calgary Dinos downed the reigning Vanier Cup champion UBC Thunderbirds 35-8 on Friday in CIS football action.

Underdahl hit Austen Hartley with a 10-yard pass for the game’s opening score early in the first quarter, then found Tyler Ledwos from 33 yards out just before halftime to make it 14-1 Calgary (2-0).

Quentin Chown had a six-yard run and Jeshrun Antwi crossed the goal line from 10 yards out while Niko DiFonte kicked two field goals for the Dinos. Chown had 99 yards on 15 carries.

Underdahl finished the contest 22-of-31 passing for 307 yards and an interception.

Michael O’Connor was 23-of-41 passing for 175 yards with a touchdown and a pick for the Thunderbirds (1-1).

MONTREAL — Samuel Caron went 16-of-19 passing for 216 yards and two touchdowns, and the Carabins defence held the opposition to 48 total yards of offence as Montreal (2-0) hammered Bishop’s (0-2).

EDMONTON — Tyler Chow carried the ball 29 times for 191 yards and a touchdown, and Sean Stenger was 5 for 5 on field goals as Saskatchewan (2-0) beat Alberta (0-2).
