UPDATE: Second body recovered in Gold Bridge plane crash

LILLOOET — UPDATE: The body of the third passenger has been recovered by the BC RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and the investigation has been turned over to the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service.

The 29 year old male passenger was from Aldergrove. The other deceased passenger was a 20 year old male from Prince George. The 20 year old pilot from Williams Lake, survived.

EARLIER: Efforts are underway to recover the third passenger in Wednesday’s plane crash on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge, about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet.

The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. when the plane plunged into the lake shortly after takeoff.

BC RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau says it’s believed the third person is submerged in the capsized plane. E Division’s Underwater Recovery Team is currently searching the area in an effort to locate him.

Police are now confirming the 20 year old male passenger found deceased yesterday was a resident of Prince George while the pilot, a 20 year old man from Williams Lake, survived the crash with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“This man managed to make it out of the wreckage on his own but was pulled from the water by nearby witnesses in the area.”

Police, the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are continuing their investigation.

No further information is being released at this time.

Update: The BC RCMP has confirmed at least one person has died in today’s plane crash.

“Upon attendance, police confirmed that one individual was deceased. One occupant survived the crash and was transported to hospital with serious but what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. One occupant has yet to be located and the E Division Underwater Recovery Team is currently on their way to assist,” says Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau.

No names have been released.

Earlier: The Lillooet RCMP has been notified of a small plane crash on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge, about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau says calls to 911 have advised that a number of nearby boats are trying to rescue the plane occupants.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m.

“Emergency services are currently en route to the remote location,” she adds. “No further information is currently available but we continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they are available.”
