Caitlyn Jenner Speaks Out in the UK

May 11, 2018 | 6:15 AM

Caitlyn Jenner was invited to speak before the U.K. Parliament Thursday about transgender rights for Channel 4’s annual diversity lecture. The I Am Cait star, a registered Republican, told the House of Commons that President Donald Trump has set the U.S. transgender community “back 20 years,”

Jenner reportedly voted for Trump, but then regretted it after Trump moved to end federal protections that allowed transgender students to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity.

  • She urged the U.K. to not follow along the same path.
  • Not everyone in the trans community was thrilled that Jenner was given such a prominent platform. RuPaul‘s Drag Race star Carmen Carrera said that Jenner’s “number one mission was to be the Mother Theresa of this community,” while transgender comedian Shon Faye said her perspective is “far removed from what British politicians need to be hearing and considering on this issue”.
