KAMLOOPS — She wouldn’t have been the BC Interior’s first baby of 2016, if everything had gone as planned.
“I was really hoping for a baby before Christmas, so I hadn’t even really considered it as an option, it was really neat,” says dad Brett Ogilvie.
Two days after her due date of December 30th, baby Ava arrived, and it turned out to be the perfect time. Just half an hour into the New Year – at 12:35 am – parents Brett and Megan Ogilvie, along with big sister Mia, welcomed their newest little bundle of joy.
“Around 10 o’clock that night, Megan woke me up from a nap and said time to go, and off to the hospital we went. It was fast and furious from then on, they did some final checks at the hospital at about quarter to twelve and Ava was out by 12:35 I think it was.”
Nobody was more excited than 4-year old Mia, who can’t get enough of her baby sister and is doing what she can to help out in every way. But Ava shares her New Year’s fame with another Kamloops baby. Harper Noelle Martin was born to first time parents Lauren and Cole, via c-section, at the exact same time. Staff and physicians delivering the 7 pound 15 ounce little girl at 12:35 am.
“We were told there was another baby by c-section so it didn’t really cross our minds until the next morning when we asked if she was or not, so we didn’t find out until next morning she was the New Year’s baby which was really cool as well,” says Ogilvie.
Born at Royal Inland Hospital, Ava and Harper are the first babies to enter the world in Kamloops, and right across the Interior Health Authority this year. A different kind of New Year’s celebration, one the Ogilvie family says was perfect, and now has a whole new meaning.
“I think we’re going to have to have the regular New Year’s Eve party now, just to have her birthday, it’ll be fun.”
