UPDATE: Hundreds of properties under evacuation alert in South Cariboo and Williams Lake areas

100 MILE HOUSE — Update: Another 186 properties in the Cariboo Fire Centre have been placed under an evacuation alert.

The affected properties are for an area from Mayfield Lake north to Buckley Drive and west to the Fraser River.

This area includes the community of Springhouse.

The alert was prompted by a wildfire southwest of Springhouse.

Earlier: The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has issued an evacuation alert for 396 properties in the Hawkins Lake and Eagle Creek area.

The alert has been prompted by the 200 hectare Lang Lake wildfire in the 100 Mile Fire zone.

The CRD advises all property owners under the alert to prepare your home or property should it be required.

You can prepare by:

  • Having a plan to transport all family members or co-workers outside of the area, should the area be brought under evacuation order.
  • Keeping essential items readily available for a quick departure.
  • Moving pets and livestock to a safe area.
  • Monitoring reliable news sources for information on evacuation orders and locations of reception centres.

Residents will be give as much advance notice as possible prior to the evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.
