Further investment in B.C. Transit

KAMLOOPS — The provincial government is further investing into B.C. Transit by announcing $324 million in operating funding over the next three years, which is a provincial funding increase of $12.7 million.

The additional funding could mean incremental increases to service hours in Kamloops, something council has been calling for.

Mayor Peter Milobar says, “we hear a lot from people around Sunday service not being adequate. Lateness is also an issue. It’s all about how we can add targeted hours into a system to make improvements.”

Minister of Transportation Todd Stone says the number of those utilizing HandyDART is increasing causing delays and says this funding will help alleviate the pinch.

Stone says, “what we’re really saying today is some of the funding will go to increase HandyDART services. We acknowledge that the demands are increasing and resources available to meet those demands will need to be there.”
