BC Wildfire Service hoping to access fire near Helmcken Falls today
CLEARWATER, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service continues to wait for visibility to improve in the Wells Gray Park area in order to assign ground crews to a fire just west of Helmcken Falls.
Fire Information Officer Marla Catherall says it’s still too dangerous for fire fighters to access the area.
“This wildfire is air access only,” Catherall said. “We’re hesitant to put crews in just because of the safety issues that would present, just because we want to be able to get them out at the end of the day. We are hoping to have a flight go out today at some point, depending on the conditions, in order to assess this wildfire, and then we can gain some more information.”
Catherall says the fire’s size is still estimated at 37 hectares.
