KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is advising motorists that line painting is getting underway.
A City hired contractor laid the thermoplastic lines and markings on the Overlanders Bridge on Monday.
Council also approved a thermoplastic applicator in it’s supplemental budget, though it comes at a cost of about four to five times more than regular paint.
However it’s expected to last up to five years.
Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow says, “with that machine we’d be able to put down thermoplastic, which lasts a lot longer than the regular paint that we’re applying. We’d be focusing on areas like cross walks. Areas where there’s a greater need for safety and to have the markings be visible throughout the year.
Safety is the key priority when it comes to line painting according to Farrow who says while the process is just beginning for the season, motorists are urged to take caution.
Farrow reminds motorists to, “be aware of pedestrians with the lines not as visible and clear on the roads. Be aware of pedestrians at cross walks and stay in your appropriate lane when driving over the next month.
