KAMLOOPS — The second annual Meet a Machine Fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes was held Saturday.
The fundraiser was held at the Kamloops Pow Wow Grounds and involved big machines, helicopter rides, and entertainment.
A portion of money raised at the event will be going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Organizer Jim Moorhead said the event was a huge success last year, but he thought this year could top it.
“We got more players coming this year, a lot more trucks, I’m already getting people that say ‘hey, I’ve got something you might be interested in,’” Moorhead said.
“Last year we raised $8,500, we’re hoping we get over $10,000 this year.”
Moorhead said the fundraiser is geared towards children because type 1 diabetes is mainly thought of as a child’s disease.
“This is all about the kids,” Moorhead said, “trying to get them out here. We have a lot of type 1 children come here for this event in our Kamloops area.”
He said “big kids” like himself were enjoying the event as well.
Moorhead added he hoped the momentum for Meet a Machine would continue into next year.
