Commercial Vehicle crack down

KAMLOOPS — Members of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Unit, were out in force today in Kamloops.

Officers conducted a road check on the Halston, ensuring the drivers of commercial vehicles and the loads they carry are safe to be on Kamloops roads. Anyone found in violation of the motor vehicle act, was pulled over and ticketed with a hefty fine.

“What we find sometimes is breakaways on trailers aren’t working properly, overall we find quite a variety of different things, everything from not have the proper documents for the unit, to serious defects where the brakes won’t work,” says Collin Nemeth, Senior Area Vehicle Inspector.

Kamloops is a main artery through the country, and sees a large amount of commercial vehicles on area roadways. Safety is paramount, and officers say a defective vehicle on the road poses a big risk to the public. 

“The whole issue is to keep our roads safer, if something bad happens unfortunately we have to deal with the aftermath of that, we would rather look at it ahead of time, and try to cut that off, we have a lot of commercial flow through Kamloops,” says Nemeth.
