McHappy Day raising money for local children

KAMLOOPS — McHappy Day is McDonald’s longest running and most well-known fundraiser. For the 22nd year in a row, the event is drawing crowds. 

1400 McDonald’s locations across the country are attracting thousands of people under the yellow arches, raising money for local charities. In Kamloops, one dollar from the purchase of every Big Mac, Happy Meal, or any McCafe beverage, will benefit the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Last year, $77,000 was raised, this year the goal is to exceed that total. 

“It’s a nice way for us to give back to the community that we live in, Kamloops has been so supportive of us and McDonald’s over the years, this is a really nice avenue to be able to help out the most vulnerable in the community, and at the same time show Kamloops that we really care and thank you for your support,” says Al Gozda, McDonald’s Restaurant Franchisee.

Local personalities and dignitaries, along with various community organizations are volunteering their time at half a dozen McDonald’s locations in Kamloops. Everyone doing what they can to help a much needed cause. 

“If you’ve ever had to take your child to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, and I have, it’s so scary and if you can be closer to home with family there to support you it much better, RIH Pediatrics I’m there for them, I’m selling hats, toques, aprons, and I’m really hoping we get to the goal today,” says Marg Spina, Kamloops City Councillor.
