KAMLOOPS — A pedestrian who was hit by a car near Aberdeen Mall yesterday escaped serious injury.
Kamloops RCMP say the 17 year old boy was in a marked crosswalk on Hillside Way with the warning light activated yesterday afternoon.
Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the vehicle travelling in the inside lane had stopped for the pedestrian, but the vehicle in the outside lane did not, and hit him.
Shelkie says even though the pedestrian did everything right, a collision is always a risk.
“People see cars in another lane stop and they sometimes think the pedestrian has already crossed or they’re going to make it through before the pedestrian comes. It’s always a high risk area, any crosswalk,” says Shelkie. “Just make sure when you’re driving that you always check and make sure that there are no pedestrians in that crosswalk.”
The teenager was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Shelkie adds the driver was issued a ticket for failing to stop for a pedestrian.
