KAMLOOPS — Leon Reinbrecht is appealing his conviction on two counts of criminal negligence in the 2010 Shuswap speedboat crash that killed houseboat operator Ken Brown.

Reinbrecht was convicted last fall of criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The crash in July of 2010 killed Brown and injured eight other people.

Last week, Reinbrecht was sentenced to three years in prison.

Defence lawyer Fred Kaatz confirmed today that an appeal has been filed in the BC Court of Appeal.

Kaatz says he will argue that Reinbrecht’s Charter rights were violated because of how long the case took to get through the court system, and also that evidence was misconstrued in convicting Reinbrecht.
