Buzz Behind the Scenes
INDIES GAIN STEAM AT BOX OFFICE: Two indies about larger-than-life characters are drawing hordes of viewers, Page Six reports. The Gospel According to Andre, a biopic about Vogue scribe Andre Leon Talley, earned a robust $44,500 on four screens in its first week out, and it will expand nationally Friday. RBG, about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has earned more than $1.1 million in a month. (Page Six – Click our Twitter or Facebook buttons to share this link!)
BLACK PANTHER‘S LETITIA WRIGHT IS READY TO RULE: Black Panther star Letitia Wright suggested that she may take the throne in Wakanda in the future. She piped up at the MCM Comic-con show in London, when an audience member asked her about her character Shuri’s fate, and responded to online chatter about whether or not she is now technically a Disney Princess. “I was like, ‘what’s this Disney Princess pressure? Do I have to be perfect?’,” she said. “Then I realized that everyone’s just so geeked about having a different kind of female character in the Marvel universe and the Disney universe. And there’s going to be much, much more – I’m not the only Disney Princess to come to the surface and claim that title.”
JAMES IVORY JOINS DANCE AGAIN WITH ME HEYWOOD: James Ivory, who turns 90 in June, will add another role to his plumped up resume, as narrator for the Italian drama feature Dance Again With Me Heywood! The film is being described as a new type of fairy tale geared toward teen audiences. It tells the story of a lonely man who becomes friends with a woman through a shared fondness for dance. They both suffer from Moon’s Butterfly Syndrome, which makes them invisible to anyone without the disorder. Ivory has helmed iconic films like Howards End and The Remains of the Day, and also took home an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Call Me By Your Name.
RON HOWARD LOOKS ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF SOLO SLUMP: Solo: A Star Wars Story, starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke, fell short of box office projections, just breaking past the $100 million mark on its fourth day of release. (It was initially expected to bring in $130 million+). But director Ron Howard is still pretty happy, tweeting: “Didn’t meet projections but amounts to a new personal best.”
