MERRITT — The search for a missing hunter in the Merritt area has ended in tragedy.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP told CFJC Today that Claus Fahrmann, who also goes by Myles, was found dead by a search team around noon on Thursday (Nov. 5).

“His death is not considered suspicious and the BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means the person came to their unexpected death,” RCMP spokesperson Cst. Chris Terleski said in an email.

Fahrmann, 57, was reported missing around 7:30 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 2), and his disappearance led to a large-scale search involving several search and rescue volunteers – including a team from Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR).

“Kamloops Search and Rescue extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends,” KSAR said in a statement Friday. “We also thank Nicola Valley Search and Rescue and all regional SAR teams involved for their collaboration and dedication throughout the search.”

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this loss.”

Fahrmann was out hunting and due back on Sunday, but he was last heard from on Saturday (Oct. 31). According to a post on social media, he was last pinged in the Merritt area, and his older model van was located near Glimpse Lake.
