RIH Foundation warns of craft fair email scam

KAMLOOPS — The Royal Inland Hospital Foundation says someone is using Kamloopsians’ love of holiday markets to run a hand-crafted scam.

In a post to social media, the foundation says the scam has popped up ahead of its 40th Annual Craft-A-Fair, set for this Sunday at Sandman Centre.

The post notes vendors are being offered confirmation of their attendance and asked to pay fees via e-transfer.

In reality, the foundation says it is not requesting or accepting e-transfers for this event, nor does it use a Gmail address for official emails.

“Payments through the official Blackbaud link provided by our team remain secure,” notes the post.

Those who receive scam or suspicious emails are advised to report them to their email providers and to call the foundation to verify authenticity. They should not send payments, click links or offer any personal information to the suspicious contact.

This scam is strikingly similar to one Kamloops Christmas Market organizers spoke out about earlier this fall.
