Goalie-stick-rider Tate was unaware of Tiger Williams; Clouston talks showmanship
KAMLOOPS – Kaeden Tate’s goalie-stick-riding celebration has made its way across the hockey world on social media, the accidental ode to Tiger Williams amplified by the NHL, BarDown and many others.
Tate knew nothing of Williams, who hopped on his twig and coasted along the ice on Dec. 10, 1980, at Maple Leaf Gardens after scoring for the Vancouver Canucks against the team that traded him earlier that year.
The 17-year-old Kamloops Blazers’ netminder discovered the fabled NHL enforcer’s theatrics last weekend after his version of the celebration went viral.
