Judicial recount to come for North Thompson school trustee race as recount leads to tie
KAMLOOPS — It’s another twist in the race for the school trustee seat in Area 2 (North Thompson) of the Kamloops-Thompson School District (SD73), as a recount held on Tuesday (Oct. 20) has led to a tie between the two candidates.
Preliminary results released on Saturday (Oct. 17) showed incumbent Shelley Sim beat challenger Lee Onslow by just three votes. Sim, who was also elected mayor of Clearwater, finished with 338 votes while Onslow, who was acclaimed to the Thompson Nicola Regional District board, finished with 335.
“Following the Official Count on October 20, Chief Election Officer Kim Morris has declared a tie for Area 2,” a statement from SD73 said. “The vote will be referred to judicial recount. Further updates will be provided following the judicial review.”
