Lytton applies for judicial recount after election-night tie for mayor’s chair
LYTTON, B.C. — Officials say an electoral deadlock for mayor of the Village of Lytton could come down to a drawing of lots.
After Saturday’s (Oct. 17) vote, incumbent mayor Denise O’Connor and challenger Jennifer Thoss were exactly tied with 45 votes each.
The village says Chief Election Officer Shannon Story has declared that result official and is now applying to the Provincial Court of B.C. for a judicial recount.
The deadline to apply for a judicial recount is October 26 and, as per the Local Government Act, the recount must be completed between the 10th and 13th day after general voting day – which would be between October 27 and 30.
