Two people injured in Merritt shooting; police searching for suspect vehicle
MERRITT, B.C. — Two people were injured after a shooting in Merritt over the weekend.
At around 2:55 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 4), Merritt RCMP say officers responded to the 2900-block of Blair Avenue where they contained the scene and assisted two victims with gunshot wounds.
In a news release issued Monday, RCMP say it’s believed the shooting was targeted, and there’s no further risk to the public. RCMP add the two victims were assessed by paramedics and their injuries were non-life-threatening.
“These occurrences are understandably very alarming and cause concern to the public,” Cst. Blake Chursinoff says. “We want to highlight that this was a targeted incident against two individuals who are known to police. The Merritt RCMP are currently doing everything in their ability to investigate this occurrence, while we maintain public safety in our community.”
