Kamloops mother and son killed in crash near Chase

CHASE, B.C. — RCMP say a 47-year-old mother and her 11-year-old son from Kamloops were killed in a two-vehicle crash along the Trans-Canada Highway west of Chase on Thursday (Oct. 1) afternoon.

Chase RCMP said first responders were dispatched shortly before 3:00 p.m. Thursday to assist BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) in the incident, which involved a Mercedes SUV and a Honda Civic in the 5300-block of Highway 1.

Police say despite life-saving efforts, the two occupants of the Honda Civic – the mother and her son – were pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The loss of life in any incident is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected during this incredibly difficult time,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano said, noting the RCMP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service team was also called in to help.
