District of Barriere eyeing federal help to replace outdated fire station
BARRIERE, B.C. — The Barriere Fire Department has outgrown the space which it has called home for more than 70 years, and it is looking to the federal government for help.
“We no longer really fit in this space and in order for our community to grow, so does the emergency services piece of it so that we can handle any kind of influx with growth and incidents that we’re seeing,” Barriere fire chief Alexis Hovenkamp told CFJC Today.
The current fire station, which serves Barriere and the surrounding region, is cramped and it has barely any room to train or store vehicles, equipment and supplies.
