Paramount’s long-anticipated Days Of Thunder sequel is gaining momentum, with Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) in negotiations to direct Tom Cruise, who will reprise his role as Cole Trickle and produce alongside original producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The 1990 original, directed by the late Tony Scott, followed Cruise as a scrappy NASCAR recruit and notably introduced him to Nicole Kidman, his wife for 11 years. The sequel follows a similar playbook to Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and earned six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Cruise’s next project is Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s dark comedy Digger, releasing October 2nd.
